Septic Myths and Misconceptions

♦ I ONLY NEED TO PUMP MY TANK WHEN IT IS FULL ♦

There is a difference between full and overfull. An empty septic tank will not take but a few weeks to be full again. (please click here to see the water usage chart). That is the way a septic system operates. The tank should always be at the level of the outlet pipe (the pipe that exits your tank). It is when your tank becomes “overfull” that you will recognize problems in the house (see warning signs).

I JUST HAD MY TANK PUMPED LAST MONTH AND IT LOOKS TO BE FULL ALREADY

It does not take long for your septic too explode causing poo to go everywhere

♦ MY NEIGHBOR TOLD ME THAT PUMPING MY TANK IS A WASTE OF MONEY. HE HAS NOT HAD A PROBLEM IN 20 YEARS ♦

While many homeowners do not routinely pump their tank as recommended without any problems, they are probably doing damage to the drainfield that will eventually lead to pre-mature failure. Routine maintenance is the only way to ensure you will get the maximum life out of your septic system.
